SCOTLAND - 2021

In 2021, I set out on a road trip across Scotland with a friend, accompanied by my dog Shadow, aiming to explore as many destinations as possible within a two-week span. Our journey commenced with a two-night stay at Portsonachan Hotel, providing us with the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the local surroundings. Notably, the town of Inveraray with its striking white buildings was a particular highlight. Another significant stop was the historically rich town of Stirling, boasting numerous attractions.

Following our hotel stay, we transitioned to camping, beginning with a ferry ride from Oban to the Isle of Mull. During this leg, we made a pit stop at Tobermory, recognised as the backdrop of the children's show Balamory, notable for its vibrant line of coloured houses along the waterfront. One of the trip's highlights was a day excursion to Staffa Island, renowned for its seasonal abundance of Puffins.

Continuing our journey along Scotland's western coast, we paused at Fort William and the Glenfinnan Viaduct, recognisable from its appearance in the Harry Potter films. Our route then led us to Culloden, where we had the opportunity to tread the hallowed grounds of the final battle between the Jacobites and the 'red coats.' Visiting the museum and the grounds was a moving experience, with the atmospheric moor leaving a lasting impression.

Venturing into the Cairngorms National Park the next day, we gradually made our way south towards Dundee. It was here in a random car park that I underwent my interview for my role on Series 5 of The Crown. On our final full day, we embarked on a train journey from Linlithgow to Edinburgh to explore the city, an adventure that Shadow did not enjoy, he's a country boy at heart.
