'SARNIA CHERIE'
'Sarnia Cherie', which translates to 'Dear Guernsey', initially intended to be my final project during my University degree. Unfortunately, due to the Coronavirus pandemic, I couldn't travel and complete this project. However, two years later, I finally seized the opportunity.
Guernsey was the only British territory to be occupied by the Germans during World War II. From their landing on June 30, 1940, the occupation continued until the liberation day on May 9, 1945. This period earned the Channel Islands the nickname 'Hitler's Island Madness', as it transformed into the most fortified place in the world. To this day, the landscape of these small islands remains scattered with fortifications in the form of batteries, bunkers, and observation towers. During my five-day trip, I travelled the island, documenting as many of these concrete structures as possible, each with its own distinct characteristics.
Furthermore, I had the opportunity to explore the nearby island of Sark, one of the few remaining places globally where automobiles are prohibited on roads, allowing only tractors, bicycles, and horse-drawn vehicles.
