AVEBURY AND THE STONES

We've all heard of Stone Henge but just 40 minutes away is another ancient mystery. Avebury is home to a henge and stone circles which enclose part of the village. It's one of the largest stone circles in Britain and dates back to 2500BC. Surrounded by a huge circular bank you can walk the path of the stones.

The trail passes by four majestic beech trees which tower over the path. Hanging from the branches were a collection of coloured ribbons which I later found represent prayers and wishes to the spirits in the trees or for loved ones.
